My new book project explores how design can support sex and gender equity. It involves 8 case studies of problem areas and creative design responses.
It is widely acknowledged that sex and gender norms and biases are built-into many design artefacts, and that design has potential to reinforce them through its broad reach and social power. However, there is much less understanding about how the design community is ‘designing for change.’ This book features eight case studies of problem areas and creative design responses. Drawing on original designer interviews, it explores how design interventions can and do support sex and gender equity and what barriers still stand in the way.
